MONOPOLY Group of Companies expert told about staffing market trends in logistics

An intersectoral meeting on «Staffing market trends in logistics» took place in Supply Chain Alco platform on the 28th of July. Participants discussed global trends in attracting and developing employees, outsourcing, problems of recruiting warehouse personnel and drivers, trends in employee training and other pressing issues.

Maria Bolkunova, Personnel Director MONOPOLY Group of Companies shared her view on labor market situation with other companies.

According to her, over the past three months the number of job openings in logistics has increased significantly compared to last year — at the time of the report there were more than 41 thousand unique job openings registered. At the same time, the number of applicants in June of this year began to decline compared with 2020. This reduces competition among applicants.

Logistics companies are having trouble hiring drivers. According to Maria Bolkunova, the decline in interest to vacancies in this area is associated with the outflow of personnel from the regions to large cities, declining popularity of blue-collar jobs, economic instability and e-commerce boom.

At the same time, the average wage of E/CE drivers for the last year increased by 10-15% (from 100 to 111 thousand rubles).

In order to overcome this crisis, MONOPOLY Group of Companies analyzed which sources of recruitment are most active in its case. Avito website generates 44% of the incoming flow for the company, another 42% was attracted using a specially created landing page.

According to Maria, the pandemic and its challenges accelerated the process of digitalization in business, including logistics. According to Monopoly GC experts, one of the most important trends of the future is digitalization and automation of all processes. In response to this trend, the company is moving away from the classic freight forwarding business and developing the Monopoly.Online platform — an electronic platform that combines all the necessary services for organizing freight transportation: here you can find a carrier or a freight owner, as well as become a member of the cardless fuel processing system. The platform is designed to unite market participants and provide them with equal access to resources.

«Choosing a strategy of digital transformation and understanding that it is inevitable, including in logistics, to provide and offer digital solutions to customers and not to be a digital company inside is a road to nowhere. That is why we are now reviewing all our processes that we have in terms of customer experience and doing the same in HR in terms of applicant experience», — notes Maria Bolkunova.

Platform development and digitalization of hiring processes will also allow to react in time to other trends that will develop in the HR market in the future: SMART-trained employees, taking care of the well-being of staff (with the formation of timely feedback), as well as with the robotization of processes.
